The festival which is widely celebrated across North India marks the end of winter as farmers look forward to a new harvest season.

"Many people live in apartments in Mumbai and don't have the privilege to fly kites on the terrace due to safety reasons but it always reminds me of the childhood days when we didn't care about anything except flying kites. However, we still follow the ritual of eating Khichdi on Makar Sankranti, that my mom makes at home. Everyone has a holiday and we spend time together. Since the festival comes during winters, people have a ritual of cooking sweet potato on sigdi and then eating it."

Feb 26, 2026Abhishek wants the festival to bring happiness and prosperity for everyone, "Makar Sankranti is the first festival of this new year and I just wish it brings a lot of happiness and prosperity to everyone's lives. As the kites fly high up in the sky, I hope everyone's careers keep going up the same way," he said.
