Sneha Jain: The Concept of Bahu has Changed Nowadays

The Indian television industry has seen a massive transformation in the portrayal of women characters over the years. The age-old concept of a submissive and dependent bahu has now given way to a more progressive and multi-dimensional portrayal of women. Actress Sneha Jain, known for her roles in several popular television shows, speaks about this changing trend in a recent interview.

According to Sneha, the audience is now more receptive to shows that portray women in independent and empowered roles. "Earlier, it was a typical saas-bahu situation, where the husband used to go for work and the wife handled the household chores. But now, we see that there are lots of shows where women are independent and are handling work and home," says Sneha.

She cites examples of popular shows such as 'Diya Aur Baati Hum' and 'Barrister Babu' that showcase strong and empowered female characters. "These shows created history because of the power of women and people have been inspired by it. Even 'Anupamaa' has displayed such a strong character. It's a brilliant concept," adds Sneha.

Sneha believes that it is necessary to bring out such stories to inspire women, especially those in rural areas who are not given much freedom. "As women, we should inspire other women and everyone has a right to live their own life," she says.

The actress, who has played diverse roles on television, including that of a lawyer in one of her shows, feels proud to be part of an industry that is breaking stereotypes and showcasing women in a positive light.

"People really get inspired by watching these characters on screen. They send us voice notes and clippings telling us that they are so inspired," says Sneha.
